A flu shot can reduce your likelihood of catching the virus and make any infection much less severe. Best time: September through the end of November, every year.

Pneumonia

The new Prevnar 20 vaccine is available year-round. The CDC recommends vaccination if you're 65 or older, or 19โ€“64 with certain medical conditions.

Shingles

For adults 50+, the two-dose Shingrix vaccine is 90% effective at preventing shingles, a painful blistering rash. Medicare now covers it at no charge!

The CDC recommends adults 60+ and those who are pregnant receive a single dose of the new RSV vaccine to prevent infection from developing into serious RSV or pneumonia.

Protection from three deadly diseases in one shot: tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). Adults need a booster every 10 years; pregnant women, one per pregnancy.

The most common liver infection, which can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer or liver failure. A 2- or 3-shot series recommended for everyone under 60, and 60+ with certain conditions.
